Restarting a Job
In Upkapp, a Job defines the recurring rules that automatically generate your work orders. However, there are times when plans change mid-way, and you need to adjust your operational course. This is where the Restart Job feature comes in.
Restarting a Job allows you to safely reset a recurring cycle without losing your historical data.
What Happens When You Restart a Job?
When you execute a restart: * Active Task Cancellation: The system automatically cancels the current pending or active Work Order for that specific Job. * New Cycle Point: Upkapp instantly initiates a brand-new cycle from scratch, calculated dynamically from the new start date you configure. * History Preservation: Importantly, restarting does not erase the past. All previously completed work orders, logs, and compliance records remain completely safe and securely documented. You are simply establishing a new point of origin for the future.
Common Use Cases
There are two primary scenarios where you will need to restart a Job:
1. Significant Configuration Changes
If your operational rules change drastically (e.g., shifting a maintenance routine from every 30 days to every 15 days, or changing the assigned specialist), it no longer makes sense to complete the old pending task under the old rules. By editing the Job and restarting it, you force the new configurations to take effect immediately based on your new chosen start date.
2. After Importing Templates
Upkapp allows you to import pre-built task templates to accelerate your setup. However, these imported templates arrive with generic baseline start dates. Right after importing, you should review these Jobs and restart them, configuring the exact real-world date when that specific routine should officially begin for your business.
How to Restart a Job
Executing a restart is simple and takes just a few clicks:
- Navigate to your Items or Jobs dashboard and click on the specific Job you wish to restart.
- Modify the Start Date and update any other configurations or rules as needed.
- Click on the arrow menu directly next to the Save button and select Save and Restart.
- A confirmation prompt will appear. Click Restart to confirm.
Think of restarting a Job as an intelligent, secure reset button that aligns your automated scheduling perfectly with your current business reality.
